WoodLab
A digital workshop and community for woodworkers: design, 3D CAD, calculation and learning
WoodLab is a digital workshop and community for woodworkers: design, calculate, preview a finish in 3D, make workshop drawings, keep project files, learn the craft and share your work. It is for every kind of woodworking: furniture and cabinets, joinery, turning and carving. The interface is in English. What is in it: segmented turning with a profile editor, automatic ring layout, 3D view, cutting list, material calculation and full-size templates. A 3D studio with ten finishes. Lathe and carving tools, such as a speed calculator, shrinkage and ovality, and a rosette generator. A parametric CAD module in the style of Fusion 360 (sketches, extrude, revolve, holes, fillets, patterns, parameters with expressions and a timeline) with export to STEP and STL. Per project a file with materials and costs, a work log and a drying log. The community has a gallery, forum, shared designs that you can open in your own workshop, monthly challenges and maker profiles. The learning section has 42 lessons in 6 learning paths with interactive exercises, exams with certificates, flashcards, safety checklists, a glossary and a wood species database of 40 species. Technically: a React front end with its own Fastify server and a PostgreSQL database. The CAD calculations run in the browser via OpenCascade (WebAssembly) in a Web Worker, so the interface stays smooth. Accounts use hashed passwords (scrypt), httpOnly session cookies, CSRF checks and rate limiting, and every workshop query is tied to the logged-in user.
